Here’s what the Media thinks of the Nokia N8…

he much anticipated Nokia N8 was handed to many of the World’s largest press publications for review earlier this week.
Following the recent releases of some high profile competitor devices of late, it’s been great to see how some of the world’s most high profile journalists think the Nokia N8 will stack up against the rest.
To give you a taste of what the experts are saying, we’ve put together a brief round up on some first impressions of the device’s key features – starting with a comment on the Nokia N8’s camera.
There’s been plenty of hype about the 12MP snapper… so does it deliver? Vladislav Savov at Engadget says:
There’s no getting around it, this phone is indeed a terrific performer when it comes to video, and a 30-second clip we recorded took no longer than a couple of seconds to process and return us to a position where we were ready to film again.
The camera is similarly snappy (we had to do it), with Nokia claiming a half-second delay between shots. Our unscientific experience seemed to corroborate the claim. That says a lot about the processing power encased within the N8, but Nokia also notes that this handset has the biggest sensor that’s yet been integrated in a phone.
Another crucial feature to the Nokia N8 is its HDMI capability. Why is this so important? Andrew Orlowski at The Register hits the nail on the head, so we’ll leave it to him to explain:
It’s a cameraphone first, second and third, and features an HDMI port and Dolby Digital Plus surround stereo. This is a subtle but overlooked point – Nokia envisages people hooking the N8 up to the family flat panel TV as often as they hook it up to the PC. Given that new TVs have HDMI ports to spare, this is no longer Jetsons territory.
We’ve had a fair few comments on the Nseries Blog and on Twitter @Nseries asking why the Nokia N8 won’t be out until Q3. We’ve always explained that this is to ensure that the device has the best possible user experience once it hits shelves. Flora Graham at CNET UK backs this decision:
Nokia is taking its sweet time with the N8, which we think is a great idea — this is a good-looking phone with plenty of potential, and it needs a smooth, easy user interface to polish it off. Expect to find the N8 is shops sometime in the autumn.
Another exciting facet of the Nokia N8 is its brand new Symbian^3 UI – which we think is a significant step forward from its predecessor. It should be noted that the version of Symbian^3 presented to the Media was still unfinished, and it will a more polished version that hits the shelves in Q3. However, the guys at Pocket Lint are impressed with the debut:
Another nice touch with Symbian^3 is the visual multitasking panel that appears when you hold down the homescreen button. This feature allows you to see a decent sized snapshot of all the apps that you have open on your device. Browsing is nice, especially so because it handles Flash with no problems.
So hopefully that’s given you a taste of what to expect from the Nokia N8. All in all, we’ve been delighted with how it has been received so far. What’s even more exciting is the prospect of everyone else getting the device in their hands… so bring on Q3!
In the meantime, let us know your first impressions of the Nokia N8? Tell us what you think in the comments or on Twitter @Nseries.

Nokia X2 review and specification:
Currently, we have Maxx mobile, Micro Max, Spice and few other  companies selling cheap 5MP camera phones in India. However, most of the users are complaining that they are getting 2MP quality photos with those 5MP phones. So now Indians have the option for a global brand at the same price of the local brand, with the Nokia X2.
Nokia X2 is candybar style designed phone with 2.5 inch color screen. It is based on the time tested Series 40 operating system UI. There are pre-installed applications like Nokia Messaging for email and instant messaging + thousands of apps at the Ovi store. Nokia X2 also provides one touch access to Facebook and other social media websites from the home screen. There is dedicated control  key  for quick access to the music files.  The 5Mp camera of Nokia X2 also supports video recording.
Nokia X2 price:
As per the official Nokia blog, Nokia X2 will cost 85 euros. So when converted into Indian rupees, the price of Nokia X2 is 5000 aprx. before taxes and other charges. Nokia will launch this device around June of this year.

Samsung Galaxy 5 i5503: Cheap Android Phone with Android OS 2.1 Eclair

I was very happy to learn that Samsung Philippines has introduced their cheapest Android phone to our country, the Galaxy 5 i5503. This new Galaxy 5 i5503 Android phone is a Samsung Corby look-alike and ships with Android OS 2.1 (Eclair)and features a real capacitive touchscreen display. Samsung’s official branch here announced that this phone’s suggested retail price is 10,980 pesos which is a lot higher than the Samsung Galaxy 5 i5503’s selling price of $199 in India. The price disparity upsets me, $199 is only equivalent to around 9,200 pesos with our current peso-dollar rate!
Despite my misgivings about the higher-than-expected price tag, I would like to praise the Galaxy 5 i5503 like the Samsung Galaxy S i9000. It’s a real smartphone running a full-featured Android OS 2.1 behind Samsung’s Touchwiz 3.0 User Interface. The Korean manufacturer is really serious about beating Nokia whose latest C-line of budget smartphones are still stuck in the Symbian OS. The future of mobile computing is in the hands of Google’s Android and Samsung is smart enough to join the bandwagon. To think that they are also shipping this one with Android OS 2.1, it beats buying the pricey. Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 that’s still stuck on Android 1.6 OS.

Samsung Galaxy 5 (I5503)
Samsung has released its cheapest Android phone yet in the Galaxy 5 i5503

Selling cheap Android phone models is helping Samsung overtake Nokia as the world’s biggest cellphone maker. The release of the Galaxy 5 i5503 proves it is possible to make a high-quality Android phone without burning the wallets of buyers. Just like the previous Samsung Spica i5700, this small-ish smartphone gets all the necessary features you would need in an Android handset. The capacitive touchscreen is rather small at 2.8-inches but the display’s sensitivity is a pleasure to use. Other cheap Android phones like those coming from HTC and LG are still using resistive screens to save cost. Samsung’s decision to incorporate a capacitive display wins my heart and other people will soon choose the Samsung Galaxy 5 i5530 over competitors and so we’re giving it a good review right from the start.
Aside from having a real good touch screen display and compact design, the Galaxy 5 i5503 also boasts the following features and technical specs:
  • 600 MHz processor
  • 2.8” QVGA TFT capacitive @ 240×320 pixels
  • up to 16GB via microSD (1GB included)
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g
  • DLNA connectivity
  • 3G HSDPA 7.2 Mbps
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • 2MP FF w/o LED Flash
  • 170MB internal memory
  • A-GPS
  • 1200maH Li-On battery
The 600 Mhz processor should make it fast enough for gaming. There are now lots of free games available at the Android Market but do take note that the i5503 has a rather small screen. Samsung had to cut production cost on this phone to make it budget-friendly and thus the small display and a rather weak 2megapixel camera sensor. They did not even include an LED flash to save money. The phone’s body is also made of plastic but it still feels solid enough. The inclusion of DLNA connectivity on this phone is rather suprising. You can use this phone to stream your music to other DLNA-compliant TV or audio system at home! Buy this phone if you are in the market for a cheap second Android phone. It’s perfect for gifting to your kids or old aunts and grandparents. This phone is pre-installed with Swype Text-Input Softwareapp for easy typing of email, SMS, IM, and tweets!

Nokia C6 Review

Nokia a Finnish mobile giant has unleashed a new touchscreen Smartphone in the form of Nokia C6. It is the second member of the Nokia’s C series. The Nokia C6 looks like a trimmed version of N97. With inclusion of sliding qwerty keyboard, it will be liked by heavy texters. It features 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, resistive touchscreen, good battery, social networking, and 5 megapixel camera. Overall, it is an all rounder phone that priced that comes at affordable price.
Design

The design of the Nokia C6 is almost same as the and Nokia N97 mini and Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. The build material “high quality material” is same as the Nokia N97. We found that the Nokia has wasted the most of the real estate on the front panel. It measures 113mm tall, 53 wide and 16.8mm thick. It weighs around 150g, quite heavy in hand. It is solid phone and offers better sturdy grip. It is available in White and Black colors.
The Nokia C6 sports a 3.2 inch resistive touchscreen, which has the resolution for 640×360 pixels and supports 16 million colors. The resistive touchscreen is acceptable for its range. Usually resistive touchscreens are not as snappy as capacitive touchscreens. However the C6 screen possesses decent sun legibility and the screen is bright, colorful and crisp. The touchscreen is equipped with many sensors: accelerometer for automatic UI rotate, light-ambient sensor and proximity sensor for autolock.
Just below the display, you will find three wide buttons: the call, menu button and end buttons. A small VGA camera is at the top of the screen. The camera lens along with an LED flash is present at the back of the mobile. A microUSB port and a 3.5mm audio port are present at the top of the phone. A microSD card slot is present on the left spine. A camera shutter key, a phone Lock/Unlock button and a volume rocker are present on the right spine. All the ports are covered by a plastic cover to avoid dust.
We are impressed with full backlit, slider qwerty keyboard. Heavy texters will love this feature. The keys are pretty tactile and responsive. The placement of keys could have been still better. It offers alphanumeric keyboard in portrait mode, qwerty onscreen keyboard in landscape and of course full physical qwerty keyboards.
Features
The Nokia C6 is running on the Symbian OS v9.4, Series 60 rel. 5. It is pretty much same as other Nokia Symbian phones. The Symbian has lost its sheen with the market is ruled by Android and other smartphones OS. However, the Symbian OS has done a good job her. The Menu system, Icons and interface is very nice.
Multimedia
The C6 comes with decent multimedia player. The interface is simple and convenient to use. It supports popular audio and video formats. You can download plenty of songs from Ovi Music. It also suggests the songs based upon your previous searches. The sound is excellent. It also features FM Radio with RDS feature.
The C6 has internal memory of 200MB. You can also store files in MicroSD card up to 16GB.
Connectivity & Internet
The connectivity features are more than adequate at its price range. You can avail data transfer through Bluetooth with A2DP and USB v2.0. You can stream audio to Bluetooth headset wirelessly. The internet can be accessed with the help of 3G (HSDPA, HSUPA), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, and GPRS. The data transfer speed is enhanced with the EDGE support.
The C6’s web browser is pretty decent as this supports full HTML and as well as WAP 2.0. The web browser supports Flash lite v3.1 and RSS feeder.
The Nokia C6 is nicely integrated with social networking sites, such as Facebook, MySpace and Hi5. It also supports Instant Messaging for Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, and Windows Live Messenger. You can create and manage all your email accounts including Gmail, Yahoo Mail and other email accounts (SMTP, IMAP4, and POP3).
GPS & Applications
The Nokia C6 has preinstalled Ovi Map application. As we know, Nokia offers free subscription of Ovi Map app for life. Cool!! Isn’t it? The C6 has built in GPS receiver and A-GPS receivers. You will also get Nokia Maps loader app through PC. It will locate your position on the Map within matter of few minutes, thanks to A-GPS feature.
The other essential features include unit & currency Converter, Calendar, voice recorder, To-do list, Calculator, Note pad, a timer, a world clock, Flight mode, speaker phone, vibrate mode, Voice commands, text and multimedia messaging.
You can personalize the phone with themes, wallpapers, ringtones, message alerts, widgets, and screen savers. You can download all these from the Nokia’s Ovi Store. You will also get access to Ovi Suite and Ovi Share. You can also back up your contacts in Ovi Contacts. It also features few games and you have the option of downloading them from Ovi Store. You will have the access to other PC apps like Lotus Organizer, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Express, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft word & PowerPoint,   Microsoft Outlook Express and PDF reader.
You can print the documents easily and quickly with the help of  Nokia XPressPrint. It has sophisticated 1000 entry phonebook with a room for multiple contact entry and thumbnail photo.
Camera
The Nokia C6 is equipped with 5 megapixel camera that can take pictures at 2584×1938 pixels. The camera features Autofocus, integrated LED flash, 4x digital zoom, Geotagging images and basic editing options like Settings for scene, video light, white balance and colour tone. The C6 also features secondary camera at front in order to facilitate video calling. You can also capture videos at 30fps in 16:9 aspect ratio. You can share the photos and video to social networking websites like Facebook, MySpace and etc. You have the provision of storing photos in Ovi Share.
The image quality is quite good, but it falls short of 5MP camera standards. The images are crisp and vibrant, bit less bright. The video quality is also mediocre. The Carl Zeiss optical lens is not used here.
Performance
The Nokia C6 is powered by 1200mAh Lithium Ion battery. It has the rated battery life of 420 minutes of talk time, 400 hours of standby time and it keeps the phone alive for 246 minutes on continuous video playback. The battery life is impressive in this category.
The call quality is impressive with no distortion. Callers at both the end have no problem. The sound is clearer and louder. The speaker phone is also good.
The C6 runs on the 434MHz ARM 11 processor. It is slow compared other processors in smartphones. But it is sufficient for the C6 to carry out the functions without much delay.
Price
The best part of Nokia C6 is price. It is loaded with all the goodies and yet priced at Rs. 13,000.
